The daughters of Dokdo's first and last registered civilian residents are engaged in a years-long dispute over who should live on the islets next and how their fathers' contributions to Dokdo should be remembered.

The government of Ulleung-gun, North Gyeongsang Province, announced plans to recruit people to live on South Korea's easternmost Dokdo islets, which have been uninhabited since its only two registered residents recently passed away.
