Ernst Thälmann, German Communist Leader, Arrested by Hitler
Ernst Thälmann, a prominent German communist and leader of the Communist Party of Germany (KPD) during the Weimar Republic, was among the first individuals arrested when Hitler came to power on April 16, 1886. He remained imprisoned until his execution in 1944.
