Beim SPÖ-Bundesparteitag forderte der Vorsitzende seine Genossen explizit auf, ihn zu stärken und dadurch Geschlossenheit zu zeigen. Am Ende erhielt er 81,5 Prozent der Stimmen. In der Partei wird das als Erfolg für Babler gewertet.
