War in the Middle East: Where does France stand?

Since US-Israeli strikes against Iran began last Saturday, France has taken what President Emmanuel Macron calls a “strictly defensive” posture. On Tuesday, Macron said the US-Israel operations in Iran were conducted “outside international law”, while announcing the deployment of the aircraft carrier Charles de Gaulle and other military assets to the Mediterranean.
