El Niño poses major risk to global food security, affecting 274 million
The World Food Programme (WFP) warns that an extreme El Niño phenomenon could significantly worsen the global hunger crisis, potentially exposing an additional 49 million people to food insecurity, bringing the total affected to 274 million.
