Ukrainians Constitute Majority of Asylum Seekers in Iceland

Ukrainians are the most numerous group among those who have applied for international protection in Iceland this year, a trend that has continued since the Russian invasion of Ukraine began in 2022. In the first six months of the year, 675 applications were received, with 74 percent from Ukrainians.

Úkraínumenn eru langfjölmennastir í hópi þeirra sem sótt hafa um alþjóðlega vernd það sem af er þessu ári, líkt og verið hefur síðan innrás Rússa í Úkraínu hófst 2022. Fyrstu sex mánuði ársins bárust 675 umsóknir um alþjóðlega vernd. 74 prósent þeirra voru frá Úkraínubúum. Fólk frá Venesúela var næstfjölmennast (11 prósent) og þriðji fjölmennasti hópurinn kom frá Palestínu (sex prósent).
