Italian Magical Realism conquers the Netherlands, exhibition at the More Museum
(ANSA) - BRUXELLES, 19 FEB - The Museum More in Gorssel, the largest museum in the Netherlands dedicated to modern realism, has inaugurated the exhibition 'Magical Italian Realism 1920-1970', a comprehensive retrospective designed to showcase 20th-century Italian painting, retracing the artistic movement from the 1920s to the post-war period with works by masters such as Giorgio de Chirico, Felice Casorati, Gino Severini, and Cagnaccio di San Pietro. The project stems from the research and promotion of 20th-century Italian art promoted by 24 Ore Cultura, which culminated in a significant exhibition hosted at the Palazzo Reale in Milan between October 2021 and February 2022. That experience sparked a fruitful dialogue with Dutch partners, which evolved into a collaboration that has now come to fruition at Museum More, in a renewed formulation consistent with the original concept. The project was sponsored by the Italian Embassy in the Netherlands for its artistic and cultural significance and for its contribution to the promotion of Italian pictorial heritage. In his speech at the opening ceremony, Ambassador Augusto Massari thanked director Maite van Dijk and all the staff at Museum More, as well as the Italian agency 24Ore and Professor Valerio Terraroli, curator of the exhibition, for the scientific and organizational quality of the project. Ambassador Massari emphasized how initiatives of this kind are a concrete example of cultural diplomacy: "Through this exhibition on Italian Realism," he said, "we are strengthening a shared European heritage and consolidating cultural collaboration between Italy and the Netherlands."
