Maintenance costs for facilities in reconstruction areas are 1.7 times higher than before the earthquake in Iwate, Miyagi, Fukushima
In the three prefectures of Iwate, Miyagi, and Fukushima, which were affected by the Great East Japan Earthquake and the accident at the Tokyo Electric Power Company's Fukushima Daiichi Nuclear Power Station, the maintenance costs for public facilities and infrastructure developed through reconstruction projects and managed by each municipality have increased by an average of 1.7 times compared to before the earthquake, NHK has learned. Experts point out that 'it is important to consider concentrated urban development that responds to population decline at the stage of creating reconstruction plans.'
