Paid for 90g detergent, got only 70g; consumer wins Rs 50,000

Hindustan Unilever Limited was found liable for selling an underweight Surf Excel detergent pouch. The state consumer commission reduced the compensation awarded to the original complainant. The case began in 2020 when a consumer found a packet lighter than labelled. HUL's appeal argued against the district commission's jurisdiction and findings. The commission upheld the unfair trade practice finding but lowered the financial award.
