'States respond to the cost of debt, not to debt itself'

Maxime Menuet, 34, is a university professor at Université Côte d'Azur who also teaches at Sciences Po. He co-directs the European research group Money, Banking and Finance. He was one of three finalists for the 2026 Best Young Economist Award, presented by Le Monde and Le Cercle des économistes (the Circle of Economists, a French think tank).
