Thousands of Tons of Icelandic Sand Exported Annually
A sand mine at Stokksnes, Iceland, has been productive for two decades, with up to 40,000 tons of gravel extracted annually from an eight-kilometer stretch of beach. While half is used domestically, thousands of tons of this 'pearl sand' are exported each year.
