Japan's Supermarket Rice Prices Fall Below ¥3,500 for First Time in 1.5 Years

The average price of 5kg of rice sold at supermarkets nationwide in Japan fell to ¥3,458 (including tax) for the week ending July 5, marking the first time in approximately 1.5 years it has dropped below ¥3,500. This decline is attributed to higher-than-usual rice inventories and price reductions by retailers and wholesalers.
