Florida Transforms Restaurant Waste into Thriving Marine Reefs

Florida has successfully restored parts of the Gulf of Mexico by deploying over 500,000 tonnes of recycled oyster and clam shells between 2007 and 2024. This initiative has rebuilt oyster reefs, improved water quality, and led to the return of various marine life including fish and dolphins.
