Moscow’s mobile internet restored as Saint Petersburg goes offline

The Russian government on Wednesday lifted restrictions that had left Moscow residents without mobile internet for three weeks, with the Kremlin citing “security reasons”, while mobile internet remained out for the third consecutive day in St Petersburg. Some fear the outages are an attempt to isolate Russians from information coming from the outside world amid a parallel effort to ramp up surveillance online.
