Finland bans night driving for 17-year-olds

Finland will ban all 17-year-old drivers from driving cars at night under new licence rules aimed at reducing accidents among young motorists. The government presented the changes for approval on 13 May. The law is due to enter into force mainly on 29 May 2026, after confirmation by the president. The night-time ban will apply between midnight and 5am. A 17-year-old who breaks the rule will normally face a fine and a driving ban.
