Kako se globalne svemirske operacije nastavljaju širiti, osiguravanje pouzdane energije za satelite i svemirske letjelice postaje sve važnije. S ciljem rješavanja ovog problema, Japanska agencija za istraživanje svemira (JAXA) odabrala je kompaniju Maxell sa sjedištem u Tokiju za svoj Space Technologies Rapid Evaluation Program on Small Satellite (JAXA-STEPS).
