Hong Kong Police Gain Power to Demand Phone Passwords Under New Security Law
Under an amended national security law, Hong Kong police can now demand phone and computer passwords from suspects, with refusal carrying penalties of up to one year in jail and a hefty fine, and providing false information leading to up to three years in prison.
