Gotovo 20 godina raskol u Islamskoj zajednici u Srbiji nije bio samo sukob dve grupe imama, već dubok društveni, politički i unutarverski lom čije su posledice najviše osećali muslimani u Sandžaku. Raskol se vrlo brzo iz institucija preselio u svakodnevni život. Više nije bilo dovoljno biti musliman i vernik - gotovo da se podrazumevalo pitanje kojoj Islamskoj zajednici pripadate.
