Tokom šest sezona serije "The Handmaid's Tale" nad pričom je visio osjećaj tjeskobe što je imalo smisla jer su se Sjedinjene Američke Države pretvorile u totalitarno društvo zvano Gilead, gdje su žene lišene svojih prava. U seriji "The Testaments" Gilead je i dalje isti, ali se kroz cijelu priču provlače tračci nade.
