When I ­interviewed Andy Weir in 2021, the US ­author had ­officially transitioned from sci-fi scribe to Hollywood hot property. Such was the success of his publishing debut The Martian – and its 2015 Ridley Scott adaptation starring Matt Damon – that Tinseltown had burst through the former computer programmer’s door, throwing money at him for any scrap of a story lying around.
