Landfills Burning Daily in Serbia, Causing Widespread Pollution

An average of six landfills burn daily in Serbia, releasing toxic and carcinogenic substances that pollute the air, water, and soil. The country is estimated to have nearly 4,500 illegal and 12 sanitary landfills.

U Srbiji svakog dana u proseku gori šest deponija, te toksičnim i kancerogenim materijama truju građane i trajno zagađuju vazduh, vodu i zemljište. Procenjuje se da trenutno ima blizu 4.500 divljih i 12 sanitarnih deponija, na kojima su tokom prošle godine zabeležena rekordna 2.217 požara, najčešće na teritoriji grada Beograda (395 požara) i Južnobačkog okruga (254 požara).
