NASA's Swift Space Telescope Rescue Mission Fails, Satellite to Fall to Earth

NASA has officially called off the rescue mission for its aging Swift space telescope, which is now expected to fall to Earth and burn up in the atmosphere due to a persistent altitude control problem. The mission, costing 30 million euros, was deemed a failure, with attempts to save it proving unsuccessful.
