ECB raises rates to 2.5% as energy prices drive inflation

The European Central Bank raised its key interest rate by 0.25 percentage points to 2.5% on Thursday as rising oil and gas prices pushed eurozone inflation further above its 2% target. The increase marks the ECB’s second rate rise in three months as the war involving Iran disrupts energy supplies and raises costs across Europe. The ECB also raised its main refinancing rate to 2.65% and its marginal lending facility rate to 2.9%.
