High Court to Rule on Retrial for Executed Inmate in Iizuka Incident

A Fukuoka High Court is set to decide whether to grant a retrial for a former death row inmate, already executed, in the 34-year-old Iizuka Incident involving the murder of two elementary school girls.

34年前、福岡県飯塚市で小学生の女の子2人が殺害されたいわゆる「飯塚事件」で、すでに死刑が執行された元死刑囚の再審＝裁判のやり直しを認めるかどうか、福岡高等裁判所が16日に判断を示します。死刑の執行後に再審が認められた例はなく、判断が注目されます。
