Stary świat znachorów, dmuchaczy i babek w końcu przegra, stanie się powidokiem. Lecz zanim to się stanie, minie jeszcze trochę czasu. Lekarz bywał bezsilny wobec przekonań i obyczajów swoich pacjentów, tym bardziej że podzielali je nie tylko niepiśmienni chłopi, lecz również członkowie lokalnych elit.
