Jan Zajíc's Self-Immolation 57 Years Ago Commemorated

The 57th anniversary of Jan Zajíc's self-immolation in Prague is commemorated, recalling the 18-year-old student's sacrifice, which occurred a month after Jan Palach's, to protest the Warsaw Pact invasion of Czechoslovakia.

Výročí druhé pochodně. Středoškolský student Jan Zajíc se upálil před 57 lety

Před 57 lety se v Praze upálil 18letý student Jan Zajíc. Bylo to přesně měsíc po pohřbu Jana Palacha. Stejně jako on chtěl Zajíc svou obětí vyburcovat společnost k protestům a odporu po okupaci tehdejšího Československa vojsky Varšavské smlouvy. Středoškolský student se tak stal pochodní číslo dvě. V roce 1991 získal Jan Zajíc in memoriam Řád Tomáše Garrigua Masaryka I. třídy.
