Mass Extinction of Languages Over the Last Millennium
Humanity spoke 75,000 languages a thousand years ago, but these have largely disappeared. Currently, there are approximately 7,500 languages spoken worldwide, with English, Mandarin Chinese, Hindi, Spanish, Arabic, and French being the most widespread.
