Protection granted to migrant in Meloni-judges dispute
(ANSA) - ROME, FEB 12 - The Court of Bologna has granted subsidiary protection to a 30-year-old Bangladeshi man whose case sparked a heated controversy in October 2024 between the Meloni government and the judiciary over the government's Safe Countries decree, judicial sources said Thursday.
The ruling concludes a legal case that lasted over a year, culminating in a preliminary reference to the European Court of Justice and the subsequent resolution by the Supreme Council of Magistrates (CSM), the Italian judiciary's self-governng body, protecting the Bologna magistrates.
If the man were to return to his homeland, according to the judges, he would be exposed to degrading treatment. (ANSA).
