Choć skala ubóstwa skrajnego w Polsce od lat pozostaje stabilna, najnowsze dane GUS pokazują wyraźny wzrost ubóstwa ustawowego. To jednak przede wszystkim efekt podniesienia progów dochodowych w pomocy społecznej, a nie gwałtownego pogorszenia sytuacji materialnej Polaków.
