Two decades after the International Astronomical Union reclassified Pluto as a dwarf planet, astronomers and the public continue to fiercely debate its planetary status and the implications of the original decision.

Když v srpnu 2006 hlasovali astronomové v pražském Kongresovém centru o nové definici planety, málokdo tušil, jakou vlnu emocí a odborných sporů rozpoutají. Výsledkem hlasování Mezinárodní astronomické unie (IAU) bylo vyškrtnutí Pluta ze seznamu planet sluneční soustavy. Z devítky se stala osmička a z Pluta trpasličí planeta. Učebnice se přepsaly, spor ale ani po dvaceti letech neutichl.
