Polish Emergency Rooms Face Doctor Shortages and Overcrowding

A report by the Polish Supreme Audit Office (NIK) has revealed significant problems in emergency rooms (SORs), including doctors working excessively long shifts and nearly half of patients using SORs as an alternative to clinics.

W dziewięciu szpitalach niektórzy lekarze pracowali nieprzerwanie na SOR-ach przez ponad 24 godziny, a w skrajnym przypadku przez 144 godziny - przekazała w piątek NIK. SOR-y traktowano jako alternatywę dla kolejek w przychodniach; niemal połowa pacjentów nie potrzebowała pomocy doraźnej - dodała.
