SBU Thwarts Alleged FSB Terror Plot in Kyiv, Detains Russian Volunteer Corps Deputy Commander

The deputy commander of the Russian Volunteer Corps, which fights for Ukraine, was either abducted or detained in Kyiv. The incident ended in a shootout between Ukraine’s security services.

Ukraine’s Security Service (SBU) announced on the morning of September 2 that it and Ukrainian military intelligence (the HUR) had thwarted a terrorist attack planned by Russia’s Federal Security Service (FSB) against “one of the leaders of a Russian opposition political national movement.” The SBU did not name the man, adding only that he had come to Ukraine for the country’s Independence Day.
