Seventeen deaths reported on Portuguese beaches during summer season
The Portuguese National Maritime Authority reported 17 deaths, 868 rescues, and 1,606 first aid actions on beaches between May 1 and July 31. Five of the deaths were due to sudden illness, and 12 were due to drowning.
