Shakespeare's Birthplace Nearly Moved to US in 1847
In the 1840s, William Shakespeare's birthplace in Stratford-upon-Avon was almost sold and moved to New York by American showman P.T. Barnum. A dedicated committee, through public donations and support, saved the historic home for £3,000.
