UK has not paused Chagos Island deal ratification after US criticism
Britain clarified it has not paused the ratification of a deal to cede sovereignty of the Chagos Archipelago to Mauritius. While discussions with the US continue, a foreign office spokesperson stated no deadline exists and timings will be announced normally. This comes after US President Trump criticized the deal, which preserves US operations on Diego Garcia through a 99-year lease.
