Kdyby vedení automobilky v Eisenachu nemělo odvahu udělat věci trochu navzdory zadání komunistické strany, možná bychom nikdy neznali Wartburg v podobě čtyřdveřového sedanu. V polovině 50. let totiž původní plán počítal s dvoudveřovým pokračovatelem vozu IFA F9. Tvrdohlavost vývojářů ale nakonec vedla k jinému vozu a řediteli továrny vysloužila na tehdejší poměry astronomickou pokutu.
