Zoo Successfully Breeds Rare Basilisk Lizard via Parthenogenesis

The Zájezd Zoo has successfully hatched three juvenile Julian basilisks from unfertilized eggs, marking the first time this rare parthenogenetic reproduction has been achieved at the facility.

V knize o Harrym Potterovi je to had, který zabíjí pohledem, ve skutečnosti jde ale o mírumilovného ještěra. Zoopark Zájezd na Kladensku poprvé odchoval vzácného baziliška Juliova. Vylíhla se tam hned tři jeho mláďata. Tento druh se vyznačuje právě mimořádným způsobem rozmnožování, samice k němu totiž nepotřebují samce.
